This cursed little phrase comes from an apologetics course I took when I was younger. It leverages the fear of hell in an attempt to scare someone into belief. At the time, I thought this was a powerful tool as it’s pointed and easy to ask. Now I find this sort of thing to be rather repulsive and furthermore somewhat unsophisticated; when expanded, this shorthand Pascal’s Wager doesn’t really hold up very well and the reverse or parody of the question is equally valid.
