The Vibe
My sister is deeply involved in the Christian faith and in a recent visit to her, I got to see how it manifests in her life and more particularly her house.
The Light
I’ve almost always preferred darkness (aesthetic, literal) to light. I don’t see this as a moral quality, but some people do. In fact, some might say this is antithetical to Christianity somehow. It does tend to put me at odds with much of the aesthetic (particularly Baptist/Evangelical) as light is always good and dark is always bad.
Christianese
I have a difficult time listening to Chistianese lately. There’s something that seems to stem from the core aesthetic that is really grating to me. I know that there are a number of verse that could be thrown back at me to explain this phenomenon and perhaps they are right, however, I always felt weird about a number of the language and aesthetic choices, even when I was heavily involved in church.
Pride
Sitting in the coffee shop where I often work, I encounter many of the Christian persuasion. Recently I saw someone with a shirt indicating that they were predestined. I honestly find that to be rather gross; to indicate that one is not only saved, but that it could be no other way and that people who aren’t them are likely destined for hell. It just sucks on it’s face as an assertion to make to people around you. Perhaps this is just more of an issue with the idea of Predestination in general.
